  28. Mail order is cheaper but depending on where you order from determines 
  29. the quality of the product

  33. Highest price I have seen so far was $181 including GST, PST through a 
  34. local means and that was for a 14.4k external fax modem (which that price 
  35. was good compared to most places) - to get the same thing at say The 
  36. Price Club you would save $10 but have to go through the hassle of 
  37. getting a membership just to buy one item if you never had a membership 
  38. and pay the $40 startup fee which would have practically equaled it out 
  39. in the short term.  Now granted the 14.4k external data modem was cheaper 
  40. still but nowhere near the $70 you posted about but not that much more 
  41. after all pricing was added to it.  These prices were months ago also 
  42. mind you (back in October) so I am sure they have dropped again since.

  47. Like I said above this would be straight 14.4k and no fax capabilities 
  48. but then you have to question whether it is the external USR Sportster Si 
  49. they are offering (I am sure they state it) which is software controlled 
  50. data compression etc. which leads to numerous conflicts with hardware 
  51. controlled ones.  The software controlled ones are indeed cheaper like 
  52. the prices you stated.  If not this, then they are probably just clearing 
  53. house to make way for 28.8s.  Oh yes, I assume USR products and not some 
  54. crap name like Zoom or something

  59. I am not shopping around for a 14.4k modem and I won't deal from a place 
  60. that I don't know readily about or have access to or buy brand names that 
  61. compromise the quality of the product.

  63. Paying $70 out of province saves you on PST costs but you still have to 
  64. pay for GST and shipping charges and wait for the delivery when you can 
  65. probably pay $10 - $20 more and use it right away and get local support.

  67. Like someone else pointed out to you, this is great if you know how to 
  68. shop good and look all over Canada to buy the cheapest modem possible, do 
  69. that will all the components of a computer and it will take you some 
  70. time to buy it all compared to the walk into the store and buy it all in 
  71. one when available (mainly new users who won't know where to find all 
  72. these great deals right away).

  75. price that cheap, a simple question, there was nothing more to it.
